Leadership Prince George’s, Inc. (LPG) was founded in 1985 as a leadership training program and was housed in the Human Relations Commission of the Prince George’s County Government. Initially called the Leadership Development Forum, the program was launched with a class of twenty-four participants. In circa, 1994 the organization’s name was officially changed to Leadership Prince George’s. The program continued to operate in the Human Relations Office through June 2004. At the end of the 2004 program year, LPG was moved to the Office of Community Relations and remained aprogram operated and partially funded by Prince George ’s County, the County Executive , and the Office of Community Relations undertook collaborative efforts to launch LPG as an organization independent of its direct operation and funding as a government entity.  LPG was redesigned and modeled after leadership organizations throughout the United States .

In September 2004, corporate status was acquired and in July 2005 LPG received 501(c) 3 status with the U. S. Internal Revenue Service. In December 2005, Leadership Prince George’s, Inc. elected its first official board of directors as an independent leadership organization. LPG graduates may be found in the state legislature, on the county council, and in senior leadership positions in both government and private industry.
